Evergreen is a label for experimental ambient music, with a focus on beatless, texture-driven works that encourage deep listening. The music aims to be unusual, evocative and mysterious, perhaps even challenging. We love loops and drones, expansive textures and detailed microsounds. We particularly like works that explore relationships with natural environments, for example through the use of field recordings and found sounds. Works are created using either electronic or acoustic instruments, or both, using electro-acoustic approaches or electronic processing. Pieces might be composed or improvised, or somewhere inbetween.
We live in an era of hyper-consumerism, which is having a devastating impact on natural environments. Unfortunately, the music business contributes to this problem. We have therefore tried to ensure that Evergreen has as little impact on the environment as possible. The operation is entirely carbon neutral, through the use of green energy and purchase of carbon credits supporting the ecological restoration of tropical forests. We only use recycled paper and print materials. Our music is available via digital download and on upcycled cassettes. We love the fact that cassettes have a lower environmental impact than CDs or vinyl, because they can be re-used.
Each cassette is packaged using an individually hand-printed card insert. As the printing process is a little different each time, the artwork for each individual cassette is unique. Please note therefore that the cassette cover that you receive might not be exactly the same as those illustrated.
Our cassettes are duplicated using professional-standard equipment. We endeavour to use high quality cassettes, but they are likely to be a few years old, and they will have been used previously, so they might show signs of wear and tear. Please also note that cassette tapes are likely to sound a bit different to the digital versions of the music (which will be provided free of charge if you purchase a cassette). Tape saturation and hiss is part of their charm! However, if for any reason a cassette fails to play correctly, please get in touch and we will replace it free of charge.
